Biography Of Robert Frost
Robert Lee Frost was born on March 26, 1874 in San Francisco, California. His father, William Prescott Frost, was a journalist. He spent the first 11 years of his life in San Francisco, California.
When he was 11 years old, his father died due to tuberculosis. After the death of his father, Frost moved to Lawrence, Massachusetts with his mother and sister, Jenny. They moved in with their grandparents, and there Frost attended Lawrence High School. He published his first poem in his high school magazine.
After high school, Frost attended Dartmouth College for several months.
In 1894, Frost sold his first poem, “My Butterfly,” to The New York Independent for $15.

When he was in high school, he asked Elinor Miriam White, his high school classmate, to marry her, but she declined. She wanted to finish school before marriage.
Frost then decided to take a trip to Virginia, and when he returned, he proposed marriage again. By then, Elinor Miriam White had completed her graduation, and she accepted Frost’s offer. They married on 19 December 1895.
They had six children; Carroll Frost, Elinar Bettina Frost, Elliott Frost, Irma Frost, Lisle Frost Ballantine, Marjorie Frost.

Robert Frost studied at Harvard University from 1897 to 1899 but was unable to complete his degree due to health problems. In 1900, Frost moved with his wife and children to a farm in New Hampshire—property that Frost’s grandfather had bought for them.
He started farming there but he completely failed in the matter of farming. To support his family, from 1906 to 1911, he worked as an English teacher at Pinkerton Academy in New Hampshire, and later joined the New Hampshire Normal School in Plymouth, New Hampshire.
In 1912 he moved to the United Kingdom with his family. In 1913 his first book of poetry “A Boy’s Will” was published and in 1914 “North of Boston” was published. He became a prominent poet by 1915 with his sensitive literary works.
In 1915, as World War I broke out, Robert Frost returned to the United States. At that time he was already a famous poet. He worked for many years as professor of English at Amherst College in Massachusetts.
In the early 1920s, he spent several summers and autumn semesters teaching at Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf School of English.
In 1921, he accepted a teaching position at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He remained there till 1927 and then returned to Amherst College in Massachusetts.
From 1958 to 1959, she worked as a poetry consultant at the Library of Congress.

He died in Boston on 29 January 1963 of complications from prostate surgery. He was buried at Old Bennington Cemetery in Bennington, Vermont.

During his lifetime, Frost received more than 40 honorary degrees.
Robert Frost won his first Pulitzer Prize in 1924 for “New Hampshire,” followed by Collected Poems in 1931, “A Forward Range” in 1937, and “A Witness Tree” in 1943. He is the only poet ever to receive four Pulitzer Prizes for poetry.
In 1960, Congress awarded Frost the Congressional Gold Medal.
