Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Scholarship – Prime Minister Higher Education Scholarship for College and University Students: The objective of this scholarship scheme is to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from poor families to meet a part of their day to day expenses during higher studies. The scholarship is awarded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, on the basis of the results of the Higher Secondary / Class XII board examination. A maximum of 82,000 new scholarships are awarded per year for pursuing undergraduate/postgraduate degrees in colleges and universities and for professional courses such as medical, engineering, etc.

Prime Minister Higher Education Scholarship Amount

The rate of scholarship is 12,000/- per annum at the undergraduate level and 20,000/- per annum at the postgraduate level for the first three years of college and university courses. Students pursuing vocational courses, if the duration of the course is five (5) years/integrated course, will be paid Rs. 20,000/- per annum in 4th and 5th year.

However, technical courses like B.Tech, B.Eng. Only up to graduation level i.e. Rs. Scholarship will be available till 12,000 per annum for the first, second and third years and Rs. 20,000 in the fourth year.

Note: The rate of scholarship is Rs.10,000/- per annum for the first three years.

Renewal scholarship in respect of academic year 2021-22, irrespective of actual release

It takes place in the financial year 2022-23.

Prime Minister Higher Education Scholarship Eligibility

  1. Students above 80 per cent of the successful candidates in the respective stream from the respective board in class XII of 10+2 pattern or equivalent;
  2. pursuing regular degree courses and not pursuing correspondence or distance mode or pursuing diploma courses;
  3. To undertake courses in colleges/institutions recognized by All India Council for Technical Education and relevant regulatory bodies;
  4. Not availing any other scholarship scheme including state-run scholarship schemes/fee waiver and reimbursement scheme;
  5. Students with total parent/family income Rs. 4.5 lakh per year are eligible for the scholarship under the scheme. Income certificate will be required only for new applicants;
  6. A student changing his/her college/institution of study will be allowed to continue/renew the scholarship provided the course of study and the institution has a valid AISHE code; Aishe Code can be downloaded from the portal https://aishe.gov.in/aishe/aisheCode. can be checked in
  7. The student who has missed to apply for renewal of online application at NSP will be allowed to apply for renewal of scholarship at NSP for the subsequent year, if he/she fulfills the eligibility condition for renewal;
  8. In addition to securing at least 50% marks in the annual examination in each year of study, maintaining an adequate attendance of at least 75% will also be the criterion for renewal of scholarship. Any complaint against the student in any disciplined or criminal behavior including any complaint of indulging in ragging, the scholarship will be forfeited;
  9. Beneficiaries / applicants under the scheme will have to apply online on the National Scholarship Portal (www.scholarships.gov.in) for new / renewal scholarships.
  10. Fresh/renewal applications sent directly to Ministry of Education will not be accepted.
